I would like to know what is a good quality sewing machine for beginners, at around $200 ?
I have never touched a sewing machine in my life, but would like to start with the basics. It seems that every machine that has reviews by people who own the product have more negative things to say than positive. Can someone who is experienced with sewing machines please tell me what is a good quality sewing machine, for beginners? I am willing to pay up to $200.
Thanks
Katie
Go to a sewing machine place, one that sells and repairs sewing machines. For $200, you won't get a good quality new machine. You'll get a cheaply made plastic piece of garbage that probably isn't repairable. Since you're a beginner, all you really need is straight stitch and zigzag. You should be able to get an older machine in your price range, one that's a good quality machine in good running order. Later, when you know what you're doing and have some idea of what kind of sewing you really will do, you can upgrade to something with more bells and whistles. Better to learn the basics on a simple machine, too. The store might run classes, or know who does. Don't be afraid of an older machine. I have a couple that are 50 years old and run beautifully. That's what happens when they're well built to begin with.
