FragFX v.2 Review Part 3: Performance
Finally, the end! Be sure to watch Part 1 and Part 2 before beginning Part 3, and if you are low on time you can skip Part 2.
Here I’ll talk about everything I failed to mention in the videos. 1) there is no rumble. That is probably the most disappointing aspect of this controller. It is forgivable, considering putting rumble into a mouse would probably be a bad idea, but I suppose they could put it into the nunchuck in the FragFX v.3.
2) I feel the need to let this be known: When playing KZ2 with the FragFX v.2 (probably with v.1 as well,), go into the in-game options menu and turn on “High Precision.” Otherwise, the cursor will jump around wildly, even in close combat.
3) I know I talked about adjusting the pressure sensitivity and remapping buttons, but also be sure to update your firmware using the SplitFish downloadable software! Otherwise you won’t be giving SplitFish the chance to improve their product!
4) This is to both the skeptics, and those who think that the FragFX is cheating: using a FragFX will not give you automatic headshots. Using any mouse, be it a Logitech G9 or a Razer Copperhead, it still requires skill! No matter how good you get with the FragFX, you still will be killed by shotguns and air support in KZ2. And you still will need practice.
4 continued) I think the FragFX is something that has been a long time coming, and anyone who is migrating from PC gaming to consoles (I’m one of them) will be ecstatic to see their preferred control style available on the PS3. The fact is, FPS was built around using a mouse. And that’s the way it ought to be. So I say, if you think the FragFX is cheating, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. I look forward to the day when everyone uses a mouse for FPS, whether they’re playing on a console or the PC.
Finally, I want to reiterate that this thing works. When I was playing the WaW demo, I got chills up my spine. It really reminds me of playing BF2 on the PC. I look forward to playing extremely difficult FPS’es on the console, stuff like Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising on the most difficult setting, because I know I’ll have the comfort of using a mouse that performs brilliantly.
